back

Thats me back in the land of France after a var lovely (if a bit knackering) visit home, so posts should be a bit more frequent again. Just about settled in the new flat too with the weefee (thats french wifi) up and running and a fridge full of cheese and chocolate yogurts. Good times.

ps. merry happy seasons greetings / new year fun times to all.

follow me

I've been using that blogger following thing for a while now to keep all the blogs I spend half my life procrastinating on nice and organized and in one place. It never really occurred to me to put the option to follow me on m'blog before as I'm never that convinced anyone wants to read my illustrated claptrap. But anyways, yeah, its there now on the right if you want proclaim your public love for my drivel and have your little face in a box... good times.

hoildays

I'm back home in Glasgow for the next couple of weeks to partake in some festive cheer. I'll be festive cheering with little to no scanner access though so posts of a drawing nature maybe rather thin on the ground.

I've brought all my wares with me so my shop is still a-go-go with some new goodies going up this week.

11/30/08

YES

I've a few drawings and a small interview in the YES issue of New Sugar. Go see it here.

11/27/08

wee chaps

I realised today whilst working on a wee animation for a website I'm building that I have as much talent drawing people skiing as I do actually skiing... ie. none.

Ski clothes are odd things to draw.

11/20/08

merry fucking christmas

Since I've a day off from playing painter & decorator today I've decided to play badge maker instead..

Why send a card when you can wear a badge! I'm sure there was logic in there ealier. Anyways there are only five of the silver Christmas badges in existance so hop over to my etsy shop now if you want one...

Also got some slightly offensive badge sets back on the go. They will be available in the Lighthouse Shop next month but you can snap some up early here should you wish to.

busy busy

Many hands make light work so they say... but it still takes fucking ages.

11/13/08

bells

There have been about eleventy three thousand cows out side the house for the last couple of days. I know because I can hear them. Clang clang clang. It sounds a bit like one of those Jamaican steel drum bands only with out any rhythm. I found it quite soothing and lovely at first but after two days I'm beginning to wonder if its not just really fricking annoying.

Little Paper Planes

Little Paper Planes in San Francisco is now stocking Haughty Bitches too - good news if you live in America and can't afford the exorbitant shipping charges France forces upon me.

I jest - they're not that bad. Ish.

11/12/08

good vs evil zine

The new issue of Good vs Evil (man v animal) is out with a few drawings from me and a few drawings from lovelies like Gemma Correll and Zeroten. How lovely.

I win

Today I managed to survive not one but two perilous events in France. First a trip to the doctors on my own, achieved with one part 'special person' French, two parts sign language. More importantly though, I finally won at the vegetable queue in the supermarket. Before now I've always lost at this task and it is much more stressful than it sounds.

In British queues you patiently wait your turn - not so in France (with vegetables anyway). When waiting for your vegetables to be weighed as soon as the person in front of you is finished (and if your talented, before) you shout bonjour and throw carrots on the scales. If you don't, the person behind you will and everyone will know you are not French and therefore inferior.

Har har France I win. Soon I'll be more French than you.

la plagne

I drew these hotel/flat things a while ago when I was up in the ski resort "helping" Raph's family do up their restaurant. The locals are right into traditional everything round here and hate these buildings with a passion as they are so 80's and out of place. I think thats why I like them.

NYLON

NYLON blogged about me today (or yesterday depending on where you are in the world) wipee.

chrrrrristmas

Some Christmas decorations for Red Door Gallery. They are snowflakes, yup.

ps. I know it's too early...

10/29/08

junkie

I've always quite enjoyed the odd cup of tea now and again but in the past couple of weeks I seem to have acquired a rather ferocious addiction. I used to love a pot of camomile or lemon grass - and for a caffeine hit a dainty wee espresso would do the job. Now none of that is enough. I can almost audibly hear my belly demanding more tea. Proper tetley's tea with milk no less. And a biscuit.

I blame the lack of fags.

10/27/08

tramp

I managed to get my friend called a "tramp" on bbc radio and it sent us both into a teenage girl style tizzy of glee. Losers.

red

Autumn is properly underway now and looking rather marvelous. I'm sure Autumn exists in Scotland too but I've never noticed it. The trees have quite suddenly started turning all kinds of mental colours, my favourite being the bright red and incandescent pink - I'm not a fan of yellow.. Only bad thing is I left my fricking Polaroid camera in Glasgow during my last visit in fear of Easy Jet baggage allowances. My digital camera is all kinds of shit and can't get to grips with colours so I'm vexed beyond belief. Vexed and tickled all at the same time.

pikapackage

The October PikaPackage giveaway is now a-go-go. Two lucky bastards will win a package filled with goodies donated by nearly 50 illustrators (including me) and makers of pretty things. Head on over to Pikaland for your chance to grab it.

portrait

From a wee project I'm working on. More later.

moved

I've moved all my giving up smoking drawings to a brand new blog - named, rather imaginatively I think, carolyn alexander is giving up smoking - and will be carrying on the project over there from now on. The drawings were pretty much taking over things here and messy-ness makes me agitated in an OCD kind of way.

10/13/08

polar prints

A limited edition of 5 embellished prints are now available in my etsy shop. Seeing as all embellishments are by hand - ie complete one offs - they're a friggin steal at $20 each (that's about £11.50 to my fellow sterling consumers).

10/11/08

paper and stitch

I've been invited to take part in the first Paper n Stitch online exhibition. Its a space devoted to all things handmade and features some really rather lovely shops including my slightly offensive one.

Oh and they did a very nice feature on me t'other day that I was totally oblivious of until now. Merci beau cul!

10/10/08

raph

At a wee luncheon party in a mountain chalet the French folks attending heard how I pronounce Raph's name and found it hilarious. Raph told me ages ago I say his name a bit funny - I can't do the guttural French 'r' properly - but he says my name a bit funny - Caroleeeen - so its ok.

Anyway; they think when I say Raph I sound like a little yappy dog, and found it very funny to imitate me in a yappy dog fashion all day long. Dicks.

les vaches

I had a bit of a shock at the weekend when I looked out my window to see four stray wee cows in the back garden. I'm no expert but I think they were quite young - not calves but not quite yer full cow either.

I was doing the last minute and a half of my cross-trainer-workout-thing and decided to 'go for the burn' and finish before I leapt out on the balcony to take a picture of the scene. My reasoning was surely cows can't go far in a minute and half.

Wrong. The sprightly little buggers managed to stroll round the apple tree and down the stairs to the front garden, out the driveway and across the road in 1.34 minutes. All I got was a photo of them bumbling about the driveway before crossing the road. And I missed seeing them go down the stairs which I imagine would be quite comical. I am furious.

Lessons learned:

1. Exercise = missed opportunities and a waste of my precious time.
2. Cows are rather fast.
